Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Sir Alan Sugar and the Board of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have expressed complete satisfaction at the news that the News of the World has agreed to publish an apology in the next issue of the newspaper and has agreed to pay £80,000 to them and that both the newspaper and Mr. Alan Mullery have given a firm undertaking not to repeat the damaging statements contained in the issue of the News of the World of August 16, 1998.
The action, which was due to be heard in the High Court today (Thursday), centred on allegations made by Mr. Mullery that Sir Alan and Tottenham gave false or bogus explanations for the Club’s failure to sign top players in the run-up to the 1998-1999 season and had treated Gary Mabbutt meanly and disloyally.
Sir Alan Sugar, commenting on the Settlement today, said: “Tottenham and I brought this action to protect our reputations. I am very satisfied with the Settlement and we will donate a sum, yet to be determined, to Great Ormond Street Hospital, the balance going towards the cost of this case.
“I am personally delighted that the News of the World and Alan Mullery have had the good sense to settle this case and I will hold Mr. Mullery to his undertaking never to repeat his allegations about Tottenham Hotspur or me.”
