Chairman on relocation option

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chairman Daniel Levy has conceded that the club would explore the option of relocating should the area around White Hart Lane not be subject to regeneration by the government and local authorities.

The chairman is aware that this is an emotive topic and insists that the views of supporters will be gathered and taken into account before any long-term planning is mapped out.

There will be an online questionnaire here on the official website during the course of next week and a survey will also be conducted in the matchday programme for the visit of Charlton Athletic on Boxing Day.

The ideal for the chairman would be Spurs playing at the Lane in front of 50,000 supporters in a regenerated borough with improved transport links.

Asked if he could realistically see this being achieved, Daniel responded: "As I sit here today, I have very little confidence based on past performance.

"This area has gone downhill. There's been no central government intervention to stop the decline. I'm not confident, which is why we've decided we have to look at other options."

Daniel hopes that relocation does not prove to be the only viable option to secure the long-term future of the club, but points out that the current position, with poor access and limited capacity, cannot be sustained indefinitely.

"Without improved transport links, we can't move on. We can't sit here forever and a day hoping it's going to happen," he said.

"We haven't set a time limit but if we find another suitable site, somewhere financially viable that the fans would be comfortable with, that would be a catalyst upon which we'd have to turn around and say we've had enough.

"Either there's going to be significant commitment or we're off. We haven't put a gun to anyone's head yet because we're not in that position - but we are at the point where we will explore other avenues."

Check the official site during the course of next week and put your views across in our online questionnaire.
