Carr's turning point

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Carr hopes Saturday’s victory against Derby County marks a turning point for this season. If he’s right he can claim the pivotal moment.

Carr’s magnificent 25-yard drive right on the half-time whistle restored our lead and more importantly gave us a much-needed boost just as the early match cheers had started to turn into jeers.

Oyvind Leonhardsen’s second goal of the match then took us into a more comfortable 3-1 lead that never looked threatened. But Carr’s goal remained the key.

The Irish international commented: “Hopefully that could be a turning point for us and we can get a run of results going.

“I thought we played some great football, great moves and could have scored more.

“The lads responded well. It’s tough when you concede a goal after you’ve played well, the fans are on your back and the pressure is on. We kept at it, kept playing and got the result deserved in the end.”

So what about that crowd? Carr had appealed on this website on Friday for everyone to be together but after a promising start, Derby’s equaliser provided a testing 10 minutes.

Carr gave an insight to the players’ feelings. “We started off the first half-hour playing great football and went 1-0 up but because we conceded a goal all that football was forgotten about,” he said.

“It doesn’t help the players and can’t be right. The fans have to stay behind the team.

“It’s frustrating for the crowd but it doesn’t help the team. We concede a goal and we’re getting booed.

“Before then it was brilliant football for half an hour and they are all loving it. You can’t just change your mind because we’ve conceded a goal. It’s important for them, as much as they are frustrated, to get behind us.”
