Carroll's mixed feelings

Tom Carroll was rightly pleased with his cameo appearance against Fulham – but personal praise alone wasn’t going to shift the overriding feeling of disappointment after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat.

The young midfielder added a spark to the performance after entering the fray in the 67th minute, always looking to get on the ball and almost picked a couple of passes that might have led to chances as we tried to find an equaliser.

It was Tom’s 12 appearance of the campaign and sixth off the bench in the Premier League.

“On a personal level, I was quite pleased with how it went but the three points would have been massive for us and we couldn’t get the win, so that was disappointing for everyone,” said Tom.

“We all wanted to bounce back after the results at Liverpool and at the San Siro but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“We don’t have days like this very often, but this was one of them. I’m sure with the players in the squad we can bounce back and we’ll look to kick on again after the international break. We’ve some big characters in there and I’m confident we can do it.”

Tom is on international duty himself – joining Andros Townsend, Danny Rose and Adam Smith in the England Under-21 squad and looking for his first U21 cap in friendlies against Romania on Thursday and Austria next Monday, March 25.
