Carroll on song as we face Canaries

02 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

It’s already six weeks since Tom Carroll fired home his first Premier League goal – a strike he’ll never forget.

Norwich were the opponents on Boxing Day at the Lane when Tom, off the bench, completed our 3-0 win with a fine strike from 25 yards, a firecracker off his left foot that curled inch-perfect into the corner.

“Your first Premier League goal is always going to stand out,” reflected Tom as we prepare to face the Canaries again, this time at Carrow Road this evening (Tuesday, February 2, 7.45pm).

“As soon as it left my foot I knew it had a chance and it was a great feeling to see it hit the back of the net. It wasn’t the worse way to get a first goal in the Premier League!”

Tom’s in the goalscoring habit with three in 20 appearances now this term after his close-range effort against Colchester in the FA Cup on Saturday - that’s goals in the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup this term.

“Goals give you the biggest boost ever, but so does playing games regularly as well,” said the midfielder. “The more you play the more confident you get.”

Goals were certainly on the menu in Norwich’s last outing - a remarkable 5-4 loss against Liverpool at Carrow Road where they led 3-1, trailed 4-3 and got back to 4-4 in the 90th minute before losing in the final seconds of added time.

“They will be disappointed after conceding so late against Liverpool but they have a good squad and they will believe they can beat anyone at home,” added Tom. “It will be tough but we’re prepared and looking forward to it.

“They’ve signed Patrick Bamford, a player I know from England and this is a good chance for him to show what he’s made of. Everyone knows what he’s capable of, so we’ll keep a close eye on him.

“It’s no easy task but we’re on a good run and hopefully we’ll keep it going.”
