Carrick's target

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Michael Carrick is targeting a first team debut following a 90 minute stint for the reserves against Charlton on Monday evening.

The late-summer recruit from West Ham has suffered a fair degree of injury misfortune since arriving at the club - recovery from a knee problem swiftly followed by the turning of his ankle in training.

Just over an hour of a private friendly at Leyton Orient last week was topped up with a full game at Stevenage and it is clear that the midfielder is now champing at the bit for a Premiership return.

"It's going alright, I felt fit and well, just a bit disappointed that the game fizzled out a bit in the second half," he reported afterwards. "We didn't really get started again after Defendi got sent off, but it is one of those things.

"My ankle is fine, I've been training for eight days now and have not had any problems. It has been frustrating, but I am fit again now and have got to look to the future."

The next opportunity for selection comes next Monday night when we travel to Portsmouth for the live televised encounter.

"I would love to be involved on Monday night, it is what I came to the club for to play in the Premiership," he added. "Hopefully I've shown that I'm fit and I'll see what happens.

"The way forward for me is to get in the first team squad and that is what I am aiming for. I've missed playing games, I haven't played competitive games for a while now and I'm looking forward to getting back into the cut and thrust of things."
