CARRA ON AZZA

Michael Carrick can relate to Aaron Lennon's world being turned upside down following his call up to England's World Cup squad.

Aaron capped a fine first season at Spurs by joining team-mates Michael, Jermaine Jenas and Paul Robinson in Sven Goran Eriksson’s 23-man squad for Germany.

Michael pointed out the similarities between Aaron’s first senior call and his own back in May 2001 when he made his England debut as a substitute for David Beckham in a 4-0 friendly win against Mexico.

“It’s a magnificent achievement for someone so young,†said Michael. “Things have happened so quickly for him and I was pretty much in the same boat as Aaron when I was his age.

“I had my first season at West Ham and then got into the squad when I was 19 as well.

“It wasn’t the World Cup though and to get into the World Cup squad at that age is unbelievable. He must be pinching himself at the minute.

“He’s been fantastic for us especially in the latter stages of the season and I’m sure he can handle the whole situation.â€Â
