Carr targets top bracket

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Carr feels that the strengthening of the squad is the key to unlocking the door of the top six next season.

Stephen points out that not many teams could have prospered with the sort of injuries we suffered last season, but our squad simply didn’t have the depth to maintain any sort of challenge when the treatment room filled up.

However, what Stephen does see as a major positive, is how the youngsters responded to the challenge when drafted in.

"We can do it (make the top six), but you can’t always rely on your best players to be fit throughout the season, it just doesn’t work like that and you have to cope with them.

"This year we’ve had crippling injuries, not just one or two, and with any team that is difficult to deal with. We haven’t the depth of United, Leeds, Liverpool, Arsenal - we have to be up there with them.

"Having said that, the good thing is that the young players have had great experience. That will help them in the long run because the gaffer knows he can throw them in and they’ll do a job.

"You have to get the balance though. A lot of youngsters came in at the same time and that’s not ideal because if you don’t get the results then confidence can soon go. To be fair they’ve coped well. But for the top six next season we need players and the manager knows that."

Glenn, of course, has added Teddy, ‘Bunje’ and Gus to the ranks with possibly more to follow, and Stephen, form-wise, is seeking a return to the beginning of last season.

"To stay injury free, get playing again and get back to where I was at the start of last season and then higher than that," said Stephen, when asked of his aims for the new campaign.

"Just keep improving as a player and get back in the national side, because I lost my place to Gary Kelly. The injury didn’t helped me on that front."
