Carr: Sol so vital for us

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Carr has described his team-mate Sol Campbell as 'one of the best central defenders in the world' and admits his presence at Old Trafford on Sunday is vital.

Big Sol is Glenn Hoddle's main doubt as the massive FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal draws closer.

He was rated 50-50 on Thursday after turning his ankle playing for England against Albania last week.

Irish star Stephen, back in the frame himself after injury alongside Oyvind Leonhardsen, Tim Sherwood, Sergei Rebrov, Stephen Clemence and Ledley King, says Sol's return could be the major boost.

He said: "Sol getting back fit is a major thing for us and would be a real boost. He’s a major player for us and everyone knows that. We’re keeping our fingers crossed."

So what were his strengths? "You just don’t get by him, simple as that," Stephen revealed.

"In training or any game I’ve seen him play he never seems to play badly. He’s so consistent. He’s got even better on the ball over the last couple of seasons as well and he’s become one of the best central defenders in Europe at least, if not the world. And he’s still very young."

Stephen added that we would have to pull out all the stops to conquer our North London rivals.

He insisted: "We will have to play the best we’ve played all season against them.

"It will be difficult but we have to try to go at them but at the same time we will have to show them that respect as well. They have great players all over the pitch and it’s important we work really hard to get the ball and when we have it, keep it."
