Carr ignores the flak
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Stephen Carr has developed a thick skin after 150 games in Tottenham’s defence.
And he’s needed it. The knives usually come out after goals have been conceded and although the excellent full-back usually escapes the criticism these days, he’s part of a defence that has come in for stick again in recent weeks.
The Irish star said: “We win together and lose together, simple as that.
“We have leaked six goals in the last two away games for different reasons. Everyone looks at the defence straight away but I don’t think you can just blame the back four.
“As a unit we probably have to work harder and there have been individual mistakes which unfortunately we’ve been punished for.
“We’re used to the back four getting the blame at this club though. People can say what they like and we have to go out in the next game, show it has just been slip-ups and stay tight again.
“I don’t think the criticism will bother the players at the club.
“People have their opinions and they are entitled to them. It happens at every club — Liverpool have had their critics this season and even United, the best team in the land.
“It’s not going to bother us, we just have to cut out the individual mistakes and work collectively harder together and try to put it right.
“So if people want to criticise that’s fair enough but it is no good us getting our chins down and letting it bother us — it would only go from bad to worse.
“It’s amazing though. If we get a few results, get through to the next round of the Worthington Cup it all changes. It’s just important to get that win because otherwise the pressure will be on us.”
