Colin Calderwood hailed his side's performance against Charlton on Monday evening as the best so far from his 'little group'.
His young side pretty much bossed a more experienced Charlton outfit and emerged with a deserved 2-1 triumph with goals from David Galbraith and Steven Ferguson.
After not registering a win a four games, Colin was understandably elated afterwards.
"It was good today," he purred. "I thought in periods that was the best we've played as a little group. There was one segment where we moved the ball from right to left, back to the right, delivered a cross and Yannick's just inches away from getting on the end of it.
"Everything about the build-up and a lot of the second half was very good, exceptional. I think it's the best we've played."
Colin's resourses have been strengthened by the return from injury of Johnnie Jackson and Ferguson - not old hands by any means, but young talents with a bit of experience under their belts.
"The young boys have come in and been helped by the slightly older ones like Jacko and Fergie coming back. It's competition for them."
The return of Jacko enabled Colin to pair him in central midfield with skipper John Piercy - a combination that worked so well towards the end of last season.
"Normally we've been dominated by older players in the other team, but tonight, the two of them have come through together.
"I thought Jacko in his first game for three or four months did very well. We've just got to work away at him and make sure that his recovery from this game is proper and he does the right things and gets ready for the game next week.
"At the back I thought Ben Thatcher, being the oldest, set a good example. The young boys there played their best so far."
Colin also reserved praise for keeper Shwan Jalal, who made his first start for the second string.
"Handling was good, decision making on the whole not bad, kicking excellent. When you look at him he's a big lump of a boy, he's confident and you could hear him talking from the sideline.
"To be honest, I don't think there were any disappointments tonight. They've all done themselves a power of good. Whether it's because the under-19s are doing well, on a nice little run and getting confident, I'm not sure.
"I've seen an improvement in the way they go about it and I think you are seeing them now really relishing being in the reserve team.
"Charlton had a few experienced players out, but were not as strong as some we've faced. That's the next question, can they go and do it when we find ourselves against a more experienced team than we did here?"
