Calderwood content

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Colin Calderwood was an understandably happy coach after seeing his team record their first win in five games against Wimbledon at Kingstonian.

Our last success at reserve team level was the 3-1 win over Leicester at the Lane on November 11 and goals from Tim Sherwood and Gary Doherty saw to it that Colin could reflect on a 2-0 victory, rather than explain a defeat after the encounter with the Dons on a poor pitch at Kingsmeadow.

"It was obvious, as I've said before, that we've had a poor run of results," conceded Colin. "Some of the performances have actually been pretty good, but only in patches of the games, and we've had leads in games, let them go and missed a lot of chances in other games.

"Whatever the reason, we have probably deserved to lose the majority of games because we haven't seen the 90 minutes out with effort, appetite and energy for the game.

"You certainly couldn't level that at them tonight.

"If they ever wanted an excuse they had it because the pitch was very uneven. They found a nice rhythm and tempo to their play and actually ended up enjoying it. Their appetite was very good."

An added bonus on the night was the return from injury of Anthony Gardner, Alton Thelwell and Matthew Etherington, while Neil Sullivan made his second reserve start since recovering from a broken thumb.

"It obviously helped having three or four players coming back and their appetite for the game was good. Everyone grew into the game and there was a lot of good things out there tonight. Even on a difficult pitch there were patches where we passed the ball very well.

"The attitude of this group was first class, they did their job and they did it properly. That is a pleasing point and, as I said, they got after the game."
