Calderwood content

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Reserve coach Colin Calderwood was happy with his side after the tough test against Dagenham and Redbridge, but rued a period in the second half that allowed the Conference side to draw level at 2-2.

His young side lost their way shortly after the break and Dagenham wiped out the deficit after being 2-0 down after 12 minutes. However, Colin was more than happy with the test the Daggers provided and the application of his team.

"I think it was an excellent exercise against probably the best of the sides we have played from teams who are either in the Conference of have just dropped out.

"I thought we had a decent first half and did a lot of good things, but we ended up conceding a goal probably everyone will be disappointed with. That gave them a little lifeline back into the game.

"We had two or three chances that might have increased our advantage, but overall we’re pretty pleased. Disappointed with a period of the second half where they were more physical and ran by too many of us to get in positions. But a lot of good things happened."

After the tricky beginning to the second half, the boys rallied well and regained their composure. They were denied another goal when Johnnie Jackson’s effort was ruled out for offside.

"We came back well. One or two of the lads thought the disallowed goal should have stood, but that doesn’t matter. The manner in which we played the first half was good and the way we came back into it was good.

"The last two games have been a little bit like that now (Dover being the other), 20 minutes into the second half the other team has dominated and both times have scored. That’s the time you have got to see out, when the other team is playing a little bit better than you, see that period out and then come back into the game. You must see it out without conceding a goal.

"I think you can see the boys gaining in confidence with their fitness and playing with each other. The first half was very good and they showed a competitive streak throughout the game. But sometimes, when things aren’t going 100 per cent for you, you’ve got to dig in and do the right things through the game.

"For one period we made wrong decisions, wrong passes and that had a big influence on how they got back in the game."
