Burnley v Spurs - Mauricio's preview

01 April 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino is ready for a Burnley team that he expects to push us in all parts of the game at Turf Moor today.

The Clarets have lost just three times on home soil in the Premier League all season, winning nine of 14 so far, beating Liverpool and recently drawing against Chelsea.

We head to Lancashire in form form ourselves though with three wins on the trot, four in the last five and 10 in the last 13 in the Premier League to sit second behind Chelsea.

What was Mauricio expecting at Turf Moor? “It will be a very tough game, Burnley are doing very well at home, they’ve had some unbelievable results there and for us, it’s a big, big challenge.

“They are a very aggressive team, very competitive. They believe in the way they play and they fight, it’s a strong team, very physical and it will be tough.

“In the last few months every week has been an important week and it will be the same until the end of the season.

“Every game is the most important to keep our position, to fight and to be there if Chelsea fail. At the same time, we need to be ready to suffer a lot because Burnley are a team that will always push you to give your best and we need to be ready not just physically, technically and tactically, but mentally as well.”

It was put to Mauricio how well the players had responded since the loss at Anfield - three straight league wins.

He added: “It’s always difficult to keep the same level during the whole season, you will have ups and downs and we must try to avoid those ups and downs, but that’s tough.

“We’re happy with how the team has reacted to the defeats against Liverpool and Gent and we’re in a position now to attack the last period of the Premier League and the semi-final of the FA Cup, very exciting for us and we must be focused on competing in our best way.”
