Burnley 0-2 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction
01 April 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino felt the way the players 'fought for every challenge' took us to a huge win at Burnley.
We recovered from the loss of both holding midfielders Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks to injury late in th first half to dominate the second half and thoroughly deserve the three points.
Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko came off the bench and Mauricio switched the formation at half-time from 3-4-3 to 4-2-3-1 with Eric Dier moving into midfield alongside Mousa.
Eric struck the crucial opening goal on 66 minutes before Dele All provided the second goal on a plate for substitute Heung-Min Son.
"It was a massive three points for us, especially in the way things happened in the first half," said Mauricio. "That was difficult but in the second half we dominated, created chances and in the end fully deserved the victory.
"We knew this was going to be a difficult game because Burnley are tough opposition but it’s true we were professional and we fought for every challenge and that was key to winning the game."
What was said at half-time?
Mauricio: "We changed formation at half-time but the good thing is to be flexible, to be able to play in different ways, to take a different direction with the team, that’s important."
Eric Dier went from centre-back to midfield and scored the opener - what about his performance?
Mauricio: "The first goal was important for us and important for him to score, it’s always good to build confidence and he’s an important player for us, he can play in different positions and I’m very happy for him."
You must have been impressed with our defensive display...
Mauricio: "We were very good. We knew it was going to be a difficult game for us defensively and all of them - Ben Davies, Toby, Jan, Trippier, Eric and in the second half, Mousa, all fought a lot to stop them. The whole team was involved in the defensive action and fantastic."
