Burchy's season of two halves

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

To paraphrase a famous footballing saying - it's been a season of two halves for Rob Burch.

The young goalkeeper was outstanding in pre-season and caught the eye on our tour of South Africa.

His performances did enough for him to get the call as Kasey Keller's deputy when Neil Sullivan moved onto Chelsea.

On the bench for the first half of the season, Burchy continued to impress at reserve team level but then injuries struck.

A knee problem came along first, followed by a shoulder and then a freakish ankle injury for the reserves against Wimbledon in March ruled him out for five weeks.

He finally returned in the reserves' penultimate game of the season at Charlton last Tuesday and, not surprisingly, already has one eye on repeating his last pre-season this summer.

"I was pleased to get through it to be honest," said Rob after our 2-1 win at The Valley. "I've had a few injuries so it's been nice to get through training and get a game under my belt again.

"The last injury was a bit of a nightmare. I came down awkwardly and tore the ligaments. It was out of nothing really but it's taken a while to get fit again.

"Hopefully that will be me as far as injuries are concerned for the next couple of years. The first half of the season was great but since Christmas, I've had a knee problem, then a shoulder, then my ankle.

"I'd like to think I can still get back onto the bench this season but if not, I'm looking at next season and pushing on again.

"I know how important my last pre-season was so I'll look to work hard in the summer, get back in the gym, build myself up and come back all guns blazing."
