Britannia to Black Cats
Andre Villas-Boas feels the nature of the win at Stoke last weekend has provided the perfect preparation for the season’s finale against Sunderland on Sunday.
We recovered from Stoke’s opener in the third minute at the Britannia Stadium to level via Clint Dempsey’s strike in the 20th minute and we dominated proceedings in the second half before Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed the precious winner eight minutes from time.
We now face a Sunderland team no doubt buoyed by the fact they no longer need to scrap for survival on the season’s final day – Wigan’s loss at Arsenal on Tuesday secured the Black Cats’ place in the Premier League.
The Gunners’ win also sees them a point ahead as we prepare for game number 38 – the Gunners travel to Newcastle.
“The game against Stoke was good for us, it took patience and intelligence to win that game and I think it will be the same against Sunderland,” said Andre.
“We have to do our job and independent of results elsewhere, we want the achievement of reaching 72 points. That’s important for us.”
If we manage to beat Sunderland, 72 points would be a record haul for us in the Premier League.
We’ll have more from Andre as we build up to the game...
