Brad visits Baltimore to unearth young talent

14 December 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Brad Friedel, our US Ambassador, attended the fourth annual Tottenham Hotspur America Trophy, in association with Under Armour and Elite Tournaments in Baltimore earlier this month.

The tournament featured 82 of the best youth teams from across the US, Canada and US Virgin Islands battling it out for the prestigious trophy under the watchful eye of Brad and members of our Global Coaching team.

They selected 30 of the best players from the tournament, aged 11-15, to travel to London in April 2016 for a two-week, once-in-a-lifetime training camp at the Club, training in our world-class facilities and putting their talents to the test against English Academy teams.

Brad said: “The Tottenham Hotspur America Trophy is a fantastic concept created by the Club, in partnership with Under Armour and Elite Tournaments, and a real investment into the development of youth soccer in this part of the world.

“The opportunity awaiting these young players is incredible – I know first-hand how impressive the Club’s training facilities are back in London, having played there for a number of years, and spending time with the Global Coaching team and the Academy will only benefit their game.

“Who knows, maybe one or two players from this tournament will get the chance to follow in my footsteps and make the journey from the States to playing in the Premier League one day.”

The Tottenham Hotspur America Trophy is one of a number of initiatives the Club has in place as part of its continued efforts to help develop the game at grassroots level in North America.

It also works with two Youth Partner Clubs, one in Tallahassee, Florida, the other in El Cerrito, California, that carry the Tottenham Hotspur brand and benefit from having a member of the Global Coaching team overseeing player development.

During his visit to Baltimore, Brad visited the local Supporters’ Club for a Q&A session during a live screening of the match against West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.

The Premier League consecutive appearance record-breaking former goalkeeper spoke to over 100 fans in attendance at Ryleigh’s Oyster Bar about his memories of his time at White Hart Lane and his hopes for the Club moving forward.
