Bournemouth v Spurs - back in time
23 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Sunday's fixture at the Vitality Stadium marks a first - the first league meeting between ourselves and AFC Bournemouth.
Our one and only previous competitive encounter was back on February 16, 1957 when we fell to a shock defeat in the FA Cup fifth round against Bournemouth & Boscombe, then in the Third Division. Norris opened the scoring, Terry Medwin levelled but goals from Newsham and Stiffle saw B&B home. "We were well and truly beaten," declared our official matchday programme for the next game against Chelsea on February 20, 1957.
Line-up v Bournemouth & Boscombe, 1957: Ditchburn, Baker, Hopkins, Blanchflower, Ryden, Marchi, Medwin, Harmer, Smith, Stokes, Robb.
Bournemouth & Boscombe became AFC Bournemouth in 1972 and we've played five friendlies against the Cherries since then, the last a 3-1 win on the south coast in July, 2009.
