Bournemouth 1-5 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict
25 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino was impressed with the way the team responded to going a goal behind inside a minute to run out 5-1 winners at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
Matt Ritchie fired Bournemouth ahead but we steadied the ship on the south coast, soon levelled from the spot when Harry Kane was upended by Artur Boruc and led 3-1 at the break before Harry completed his hat-trick in the second half.
Harry’s treble stretched our unbeaten run to nine in the Premier League with Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela also on target.
The talk was of ‘focus’ after we let an early slip a lead against Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday night – and the irony wasn’t lost on Mauricio as we conceded after 45 seconds.
“It’s always the same in football, when you speak about something - and we said 'we need to be focused’ - then ‘bang’, you know something will happen!” said Mauricio.
“It was was the opposite of Anderlecht but I was very pleased with the reaction of the players, which was fantastic. We fully deserved the win and created even more chances.
“It was a very difficult game against a team that looks to play on the grass, runs a lot, is very aggressive and our effort was fantastic in the way we pressed, the way we put them under pressure.
“For me, it’s the way we reacted after we conceded the early goal, the mentality was strong and the way we played, we pushed hard, put them under pressure and after that, we were clinical in front of goal.”
