Boss happy to accept pressure
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle reasons that speculation regarding his future 'goes with the territory' of being a Premiership manager.
As he faced the press in his pre-match briefing on Thursday, the inevitable line of questioning centred on recent reports doubting Glenn's long-term position at the club and the suggested pressure he is under.
Glenn responded by stating he is happy to accept any such pressure as long this deflects it away from the players.
"I am aware, obviously, of what is being said outside the confines of this club - not that I've actually read it myself," he said.
"I think that goes with the territory of being a manager in the Premiership and all I can say is that I'm working extremely hard with the players and staff here preparing for Saturday to get a result against Southampton.
"That is my focus and is where I am at this moment in time. If there is some external pressure that is on me rather than the players then I'll take that - I don't want it to come on the players."
Glenn added that he is confident a turning point is not too far away following the defeats to Fulham and Chelsea and considers that the cutting out of silly errors would go a long way to reversing recent fortunes.
"Results-wise, we haven't started the season as well as we wanted to. If we win on Saturday we could turn that corner. There have been periods of time in games we've lost that we've performed very well and if we keep creating the chances we'll be okay.
"There is a story behind the results, that is what I am saying. I can see as a coach with the experience I've had that, if you are performing like that, you can turn the corner pretty quickly. That is what we're aiming to do here.
"The spirit here is good, all of us - not just me - the players have expressed the same feeling that, if we stop giving silly goals away, we can all see where we can turn it around.
"It starts on Saturday and it is a hard game. Southampton are in good form and it's a difficult game - one that the boys are looking forward to."
