Boro U21s v Spurs - Ugo's preview
30 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Ugo Ehiogu says our Under-21s will have no problem refocusing on domestic duties as we get set for our first Barclays Under-21 Premier League game since the end of October today (Monday, November 30).
It’s been exactly a month since we beat Chelsea’s youngsters 3-1 at Aldershot and, aside from a Premier League International Cup victory over Schalke on November 3, our Under-21s haven’t tasted competitive action since then.
As we head north to take on one of his former clubs in a 12noon kick-off, Under-21s Coach Ugo expects the players’ hunger to get back on the pitch to work in our favour in what he believes will be a real test of the lads’ character.
“The boys are very good with the way they always look forward to the next fixture,” he said.
“Obviously we had a friendly against Brentford last week where we got the chance to iron out any cobwebs following the last game against Schalke, which was a few weeks ago now, but the boys always like to know what they’re working towards in training.
“You can only have so many training games at the end of the day and it’s all been leading up to the next league game with a good hunger to get out there and play.
“Middlesbrough have been doing really well so it’s sure to be a test for us. They’ve been on a great run recently where they’ve swept aside Leicester, Everton and Norwich. We know they’re very inventive at set pieces, they’re solid with a good work ethic and they’ve got some players who can cause you problems.
“They’ve produced some wonderful players over the last 10 years so in many respects it will be a good test of the production of both academies. As always, we’ll be looking for our players to shine.”
Kick-off at Boro’s Rockliffe Park training base is at 12noon. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
