Booth jumps at loan chance
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Andy Booth admits he jumped at the chance to join us on loan.
We moved in for the Sheffield Wednesday hitman on Monday as cover for our three injured strikers Les Ferdinand, Chris Armstrong and Steffen Iversen.
The 27-year-old is now available to make his debut in the Premiership derby at Upton Park on Wednesday night.
Injuries have hampered Booth’s season at Hillsborough and he has been in and out of Paul Jewell’s side. To date he has scored twice in 20 appearances.
He confesses it has been a disappointing season for him but after his first training session with his new team-mates on Tuesday morning he enthused: “This is a good chance for me. I found out on Monday and just jumped at the chance when I knew Tottenham were interested.
“It’s been a difficult season with my situation at Sheffield Wednesday but I have to forget that now. I’m at Tottenham and I’m going to enjoy myself.
“The move came totally out of the blue. I never expected it. The manager Paul Jewell pulled me to one side on Monday and told me and by four o’clock I was on my way down here.”
Huddersfield-born Booth shot to prominence at his hometown club where he scored 61 goals in 135 appearances. He switched to the Owls for £2.7m in July 1996 and to date has scored 33 goals in 140 games.
Booth’s contract is up at the end of the season and he will be free to move under the terms of the Bosman ruling but he insisted this loan move was not just about being able to put himself in the shop window.
He added: “Obviously with the position Sheffield Wednesday are in it has been difficult. I’ve been in and out with injuries, not really had a long run in the team and I just need to get back playing and getting matches under my belt.
“My contract is up at the end of the season but I wouldn’t say I’m just putting myself in the shop window. It gives me a chance but I just want to enjoy it.”
