Bongani's back

Bongani Khumalo is taking it a step at a time after the latest milestone on his return from long-term injury.

The central defender played 32 times on loan at Doncaster in the Championship last season but suffered a serious knee injury on international duty for South Africa back in March.

He made his return to competitive action this week when he captained our Under-21 team to victory over Manchester City in the Barclays U21 Premier League on Monday.

Kyle Walker also made his return from injury as Shaq Coulthirst’s double secured the win at Stevenage.

“It’s been torturous at times but I’ve had great support from everyone at the club and my family and it feels good just to be back out there,” said Bongani.

“Obviously after eight months there is a lot of sharpness lacking but I’m happy to make it through the 90 minutes and it’s something to build on.

“I started to feel a bit leggy in the second half but that’s expected. I’m just happy I made it through okay and now I’m looking forward to more training and the next match.

“I feel fine. I didn’t feel any problems and again, credit to all the physios and everyone who helped me.”
