Bobby Smith

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

BOBBY SMITH (1955-64)

A classic 'old-fashioned' centre-forward, Bobby Smith was top-scorer in the great double season of 1960-61 before forming one of the most feared strike partnerships in club football with Jimmy Greaves.

Big and bustling, tough and uncompromising, Smith was signed from Chelsea for £16,000 in December 1955 with us one place off the foot of the table and scored the goals to help stave off the threat of relegation.

He then went on to spearhead the attack in the glory, glory years, top-scorer in 1960-61 and on target in both the 1961 and 1962 FA Cup Finals. The Cup-Winners Cup followed in 1963.

Smith, who scored 13 goals in 15 England internationals, loved nothing more than a battle and his presence alone often gave Spurs a psychological advantage.

After scoring 176 goals in 271 league games, Smith moved to Brighton in May 1964 where his 18 goals helped clinch the Fourth Division title, before moving to Hastings and Banbury.
Appearances/goals: 271/176 (Lg), 32/22 (FAC), 14/10 (Eur).
