Billy Minter

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

BILLY MINTER (1908-19)

A clubman through and through, Billy Minter played almost 300 games for Spurs in all competitions and took roles as trainer, manager and assistant secretary at White Hart Lane.

Signed in March 1908, he scored the first of over 100 senior goals against Millwall on his debut and was top-scorer for the next three seasons, helping maintain First Division status.

Absent for most of the First World War due to military service, he was replaced in the starting line-up by Jimmy Banks in the 1919-20 season and announced his retirement at the end of that season.
He then took up the post as club trainer and when Peter McWilliam resigned as manager, Minter took over the hotseat for three years.

Having been relegated in his first year, he took the failure to get back in the top flight so personally it made him ill. He wasn't allowed to leave though - he was offered the assistant secretary's role which he held until his death.
Appearances/goals: 243/95 (Lg), 19/6 (FAC).
