Billericay 2-1 Spurs X1

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Colin Calderwood's very young Spurs X1 side fell to a 2-1 defeat to Billericay in the searing heat at New Lodge on Saturday afternoon.

It was the second string's final pre-season game of the summer and Billericay - managed by Justin Edinburgh - made a positive beginning and took the lead after just eight minutes when a speculative cross from Jimmy Dormer ended up deceiving goalkeeper Rob Burch and flew into the net.

Burch made amends minutes later when the dangerous centre forward Ansell was played through by Glen Hobden and he did well to block in a one on one.

The lead was doubled on 26 minutes when a cross from the right fell to the feet of Patterson, who cleverly set up Hobden to fire past Burch.

Colin rang the changes at the break, bringing on Academy first year Jamie O'Hara and David Hicks and, as the heat told on the home side, Spurs seized most of the initiative.

Jamie Slabber had two chances to score, David Galbraith went close from a free-kick and an O'Hara header flashed inches wide as the boys attempted to reduce the deficit.

On 65 minutes, another substitute did just that. First year striker Scott Thyer pounced on goalkeeping hesitation in clearing and nicked the ball off home keeper John and steered home from the left hand side of the area.

Despite further probing, time ran out and Calderwood now turns his attention to Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium on Tuesday.

Team: Burch, Henry, O'Donoghue (Hodges 78), Foster, Hughes (Jenkins 78), McKie (Francis 60), Barnett, Watson (O'Hara 45), McKenna (Hicks 45), Slabber (Malcolm 60), Galbraith (Thyer 60).
