Bill Nicholson remembered at Newcastle fixture
Mon 06 October 2014, 14:40|Tottenham Hotspur
Our next home Premier League match against Newcastle United promises to be a poignant, memorable occasion as we celebrate the life of one of the most influential figures in the Club’s storied history.
The great Bill Nicholson was manager of Tottenham Hotspur during the glory, glory years of the early 1960s, guiding us to the League and Cup Double in 1961, further FA Cup success the following year and a European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1963 – making us the first British club ever to win a European trophy. Two League Cups, a further FA Cup and the UEFA Cup followed under Bill’s stewardship.
In total, the Yorkshire native had a 68-year association with the Club as a player, coach, manager and president. This season, a decade since he passed away, we are paying homage to his tremendous service.
Three generations of the Nicholson family will be our distinguished guests at White Hart Lane as we celebrate the contributions Bill made to the Club at our match against Newcastle United on Sunday, October 26 – the nearest home Premier League matchday to the anniversary of Bill’s death on October 23, 2004.
A special souvenir matchday programme will be produced on the day, with other commemorative activities planned around the match. Be sure to join us at White Hart Lane on October 26 – and keep checking the Club website for further information.
