Big season - Andros
10 July 2014|Tottenham Hotspur
Andros Townsend is aiming to build on his breakthrough season as the countdown to 2014-15 begins in earnest.
The flying winger exploded onto the scene at the start of last season.
His performance in our second match of the campaign - the first leg of our Europa League play-off against Dinamo Tbilisi, where he scored once and provided assists for three goals - secured his place in the team and he went on to start nine of our next 11 fixtures.
His form caught the eye of England boss Roy Hodgson and Andros responded with a goal on his debut in the key World Cup qualifier against Montenegro.
Unfortunately, injuries hampered the second half of Andros’ season and an ankle injury at Stoke on April 26 ended his campaign and ultimately any chance of making England’s World Cup squad.
Andros worked hard on his rehabilitation throughout the summer and stepped back into pre-season training fully fit and raring to go.
“It’s a big season for me,” he said. “Last season was my breakthrough for club and country and it’s important for me to build on that and show more consistency.
“I’m 23 next week and that will come with age. Hopefully this season I’ll build on what I started last season, try to get a sustained place in the team and not just have a good start like last season.
“It’s been great to see the lads again. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve seen them all and I’ve had loads of stick off them for my work on ITV during the World Cup, but I’ve taken that on the chin and it’s been great to see everyone again.”
