Big night for the boys

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our Academy boys take centre stage tonight as they step on the AXA FA Youth Cup trail at Walsall.

We have entered youth football's most prestigious competition in the third round and travel to the Saddlers' Bescot Stadium for a 7.30pm kick-off.

This is an Under-18 competition and the majority of last season's Under-17 team - now playing Under-19 league football - had a taste of it last season.

Indeed, we fielded a team made up completely of Under-18 players for our last Under-19 fixture and fully deserved a draw against highly-rated Arsenal.

"I'm sure the experience of last season will have done them some good," insisted boss Pat Holland. "Seven of the lads played in the competition last season and although the experience of defeat at Stockport was tough, it was all part of the learning process for them.

"They are now a little more experienced, a year older and we'll see how they get on this time around.

"As a unit they've been together for a while now, most of them since they were Under-13s and it's nice to have that understanding between them. We're looking forward to it."

Pat and his team have watched Walsall on three occasions. "We've had a good look at them but they've played three different sides in those games," he reported.

"I'd have thought that only four of five of the lads will actually be in the side on the night. But they'll play 4-4-2 and it will be a tough game for us."

However, as Pat explained, we'll go there in good spirits. "The Arsenal result was very positive, especially as we fielded what was an Under-18 team," he added.

"Things are going well and everyone looks forward to playing in the Youth Cup. I still remember my gams in it for West Ham. We'll have good support there, I know Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood will be up to watch as well and that's great for the boys."
