Better news for Freund

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Steffen Freund is back from knee surgery in America with better news on the injury front.

Our German midfielder suffered a cruciate knee ligament in the first leg of the Worthington Cup semi-final at Chelsea on January 9.

At the time he did not know whether or not there was more damage other than the cruciate ligament but the operation has given him the all-clear on any further problems.

Boss Glenn Hoddle was delighted for him. "That was very, very good news," said Glenn. "There was no cartilage or other ligaments damaged, just the cruciate, although that's big enough.

"He's back here walking without crutches already and on his way back.

"He's very determined and he's done it before with his left knee, so he knows what's got to be done and he's in a positive frame of mind."

Glenn agreed on the bad timing of the injury. "It was a great shame because he was having a smashing season but as we've said, it's about a squad.

"Tim Sherwood has come in, done very well and given us another string to the bow in a different type of way."

Look out for Steffen Freund's first diary piece since his injury, coming first and exclusively to our newsletter Spurs News Online on Friday.
