Best of both worlds

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle took delight in our collective defensive display in Monday's thrilling 2-1 Premiership win against Leeds United.

And he was quick to point out how important it is to be able to see a game out defensively as well as play the flowing, passing football that we've become accustomed to this season.

Leeds threw the kitchen sink at us as they tried to pull back a 2-0 first half deficit and ended the game with Mark Viduka, Robbie Fowler, Alan Smith, Robbie Keane and the lively Lee Bowyer all on the pitch.

Viduka replied early in the second half but with the back four of Ben Thatcher, Chris Perry, Dean Richards and Anthony Gardner particularly impressive, we held on for the three points that lifted us into seventh.

"It was a delightful performance," beamed Glenn. "In the first half we were very bright and clinical in our finishing, in the second half we dug in really deep, collectively worked hard, solid and saw the game out that way.

"I was very pleased with the balance of our play in the first half. We defended as a unit and broke quickly and caused them problems. Steffen Iversen's goal was our first opportunity and we put it away. That is clinical finishing.

"They threw bodies forward in the second half and we coped with it. There were a couple of moments after Viduka scored where we thought 'this will be a test'. They had their best period after that and we had our best defensive period, dug in, kept it tight.

"Some days you win games with pure excellent football, other days it's about being tight and solid and that's what we did.

"All in all we've put in a really good stint, worked hard collectively with the ball and defensively. I'm pleased with how we performed and in the last three games we've turned it around a bit."
