BERBA SHOWS BOATENG THE WAY

Kevin-Prince Boateng will draw inspiration from the last arrival from the Bundesliga to Spurs – a certain Dimitar Berbatov.

‘Berba’ made the move from Bayer Leverkusen to England last season and made a huge impression in a fantastic debut season in the Barclays Premier League.

He bagged 23 goals in all competitions including seven in the UEFA Cup – just one behind the Club record for the amount of goals in a single European campaign – and capped it all by being named in the PFA Team of the Season and our Player of the Season.

Kevin, just 20, arrived from Hertha Berlin in a deal completed on Tuesday.

The midfielder already has an impressive CV at such a young age including 42 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals, UEFA Cup experience and winning the Fritz Walter Gold Medal Award after being voted Best Young Player in Germany in July, 2006.

He would naturally like to make the same sort of impact Berba did last season.

“Of course I know Dimitar from the Bundesliga,” said Kevin at Spurs Lodge. “He’s a very good player and he could go to any league in the world and be the best there as well, he’s that good.

“He scored against Hertha Berlin on a couple of occasions and the defensive players would always say to me ‘Kevin, how can we stop him?’ and that’s because he’s such a great player.”

What has impressed the German Under-21 international is the youthful nature of the squad assembled at Spurs.

“I went on the website and looked at the ages – 19, 20, 21, 22 - and they are all big players. That’s why I’m sure I can do big things for this team,” he added.

“I can learn a lot from this team and this league and I hope I’ll become better and better. The spirit of this team is like a big family and that’s what I need, I get the feeling everyone works together here.”
