The roar of the crowd when the name Dimitar Berbatov was announced before the Torino game on Saturday did not go unnoticed by the player himself. The Bulgarian was named in the starting line-up for the final First Team friendly contest of the pre-season programme alongside Robbie Keane and the pair chipped in with a goal apiece in the 2-0 victory over the Italians.
"I really appreciate it, I am always a little uncomfortable with it, but I am really happy that they are happy with my performances and I will continue in this way," said Dimitar, who feels that preparations are on course ahead of our Premier League opener at the Stadium of Light.
"We're happy that the first game is almost here and I think we are prepared for it. We have one week left, we will get better and hopefully we can take three points from the game at Sunderland."
Darren Bent has grabbed a few headlines over pre-season and Dimitar suspects that the former Charlton man, along with the other new signings, can contribute to a further increase in our fortunes next season.
"He has been fantastic and the other new boys as well. We have helped them settle at the club, which is a good thing and they are playing like they have been at the club a long time. The truth is, they can help us achieve our goals this season.
"We are not similar as strikers, everyone has a different style and are unique in some way. We could play with two or three, but really this is a question that the gaffer must answer," added the 23-goal man last term, who believes a Premier League climb could be on the cards.
"Yes I think we can with the players we have. It is a big possibility for me, I am an optimist and I believe we can achieve this goal."
