Benty's dream night

Darren Bent says nights like Thursday make all the frustrations of being a striker worth it after he hit his first hat-trick in our colours.

His treble, the first he has netted since he was an Ipswich player in March 2004, was the key factor in our 4-0 UEFA Cup victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

But ‘Benty' is the first to admit that his Spurs career since joining from Charlton in summer 2007 has not all been plain-sailing.

His first-team opportunities, and as a result goals, were limited during his first season at The Lane, but things are certainly on the up now.

Darren has already surpassed his 2007/08 goal tally this season, and he epitomises the confidence running through the entire team at the moment.

"It's been a tough year and a bit at times," he said, "but nights like that make it all worth it. It was great for my family and of course the Club.

"It's always nice to get goals, but especially a hat-trick because I'd only ever scored one other before that.

"But the most important thing is the team won again, showing the progress that we've made over the last two weeks, and hopefully we can keep that going."

Two of Darren's goals were created by Tom Huddlestone, who was in fine form against the Croatian champions.

Benty added: "Tom was brilliant all night for me and it was just a case of me finishing it off. As a striker, you want players like that around you who can create chances for you."
