Benoit mixes it at Urban Arts

Benoit Assou-Ekotto took to the DJ decks when he dropped in on a new Tottenham Hotspur Foundation project, Urban Arts, recently.

The full-back visited the programme which runs alongside the Foundation’s Kickz programme at Rush Croft Sports College, Chingford, every Friday night.

Urban Arts allows local young people to develop their DJ and MC skills while gaining an understanding of what it takes to carve a career in the arts through professional coaching from The British DJ and MC Academy.

Benoit enjoyed a tour of the music facilities where he was treated to performances from budding young songwriters before joining in with a mixing master class and taking to the decks to show-off his new-found skills!

By attending the 10-week programme, participants are not only able to develop their talents but also work towards an academic Arts Award qualification and a live performance.

Using the unique appeal of a Premier League Football Club, the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation plays an active role in the community, giving people opportunities to develop their skills and talents.

Benoit said: “We understand that not all young people want to be a footballer, so we have to show them another way sometimes.

“If a young person does not have a passion, then they may get up to no good, so that is why this project is important. Like all the players here at Spurs, we enjoy getting involved in the community, so it was good to see this project for myself.

“It was funny seeing the kids perform because it reminded me of my childhood when some of my friends who I grew up with were involved in a band. I have always enjoyed music but, unfortunately, have never had a talent myself.”
