Benji's praise for fans

Benji Stambouli fell in love with our supporters the moment he stepped out for his Spurs debut some 300 miles from London and heard more than 2,500 fans roaring the team on.
Ever since that afternoon at Sunderland – which came a few days after his arrival from French side Montpellier – the hard-working central midfielder has continued to be enamoured by the sheer dedication and passion of our far-reaching fan base.
Indeed, such is the tremendous loyalty he’s witnessed from those in the stands during his first season in English football, the 24-year-old admits he’s been somewhat taken aback at times.
“The fans are always there, home and away,” said Benji, who has scored once in 21 appearances for us in all competitions so far.
“For me it’s surprising because in France there were maybe 30 or 40 hardcore supporters who came to see us but here there are always loads of fans everywhere we play!
“On my debut at Sunderland, I specifically remember the Spurs fans. I recall looking around and thinking that there were a lot of our supporters there that day. I was pleasantly surprised!
“Even when we were up at Burnley on a Monday night in the FA Cup, Danny Rose and I went to watch the game with all the Spurs fans at half-time and the atmosphere was great.”
