There’s pride on the line – as well as a place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals – when we host Newcastle on Wednesday night, according to Benji Stambouli.
The midfielder wasn’t involved in October’s Premier League defeat against the Magpies at White Hart Lane, in which we surrendered a half-time lead to lose 2-1.
But ahead of Newcastle’s return to N17, this time for a knockout clash, Benji is determined to see us right some of our past wrongs against Alan Pardew’s side in a bid to edge closer to a Wembley final.
“We recently lost to Newcastle in the league so this is a chance for revenge,” said the 24-year-old. “We want to recover some pride after the last game against them, but we have a good chance to do well in this competition as well. I have a feeling that we can do something special in this cup.
“We have quality, we have the talent to get the job done and I believe we are capable of beating Newcastle. They will be motivated but we have to be more so.
“I think this will be a great match for us and for the fans. We’ll be focused and we’ll give ourselves the best chance we can of getting through to the next stage.”
