Ben reflects on Reading run-out

18 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Saturday’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Reading proved to be another useful test for the players, according to Ben Davies.

We saw off the Championship side 1-0 at Hotspur Way thanks to Christian Eriksen’s strike on the hour mark, with the visitors’ second half goalkeeper Jonathan Bond making some fine stops and Michel Vorm doing likewise at the other end.

Reflecting on the contest, our second outing of the summer after last weekend’s 4-0 win over Southend United under similar circumstances, left-back Ben highlighted how the opportunity to take on a strong Royals side was of real benefit to our players.

“I think Reading have been in pre-season for a month and they’re already pretty much match fit, so it was a good test for us,” said the Welsh international, who played the entire second half.

“At this stage, it’s just about us getting back into it and getting that feeling of how we’ve got to play in matches.

“Games are different to training and if we can put our work in and get our fitness during matches like this, that’s great.

“Playing football is what we all enjoy and at the end of the day, it’s nice to get the win as well.”
