Ben ready for Bosnia test

Ben Davies has labelled Wales’ back-to-back Euro 2016 qualifiers as ‘massive’.

After a late win at Andorra in their group opener, Wales take on Bosnia and Cyprus at Cardiff City City on Friday and Monday respectively.

Bosnia – World Cup finalists in Brazil – were shocked by Cyprus last time out so Wales hope to steal a march with what would be a key victory on Friday.

Qualification has opened up with 24 teams set to line-up in France in 2016.

That means qualifying places for the group winners and runners-up, plus the third-placed team with the best record. After that, eight remaining third-placed teams will go into play-offs for the final eight spots in France.

With highly-fancied Belgium also in the group, Wales know their matches against Bosnia could be key.

“I know it’s early in the group but if we can pick up a couple of good results it will really stand us in good stead,” said Ben, now capped 12 times.

“We’re expecting the biggest crowd we’ve had for while so it will be a great occasion. It would be great if we could pick up two wins. It would really lift the mood.”

Ben admitted to his surprise at Bosnia’s loss against Cyprus. “We still can’t take anything for granted against Bosnia – and Cyprus for that matter,” he added.

“Bosnia qualified for the World Cup, they have some outstanding players and will come here determined, they won’t want to start with two defeats.

“But we’re quietly confident we can do something if we play to our capability.”
