Ben pleased with Seagulls shutout

No goals conceded against Brighton meant it was job done for Ben Davies and co on Wednesday night.

Second half strikes from Erik Lamela and Harry Kane gave us a 2-0 win against the Seagulls in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup at White Hart Lane.

Goalkeeper Michel Vorm was rarely troubled at the other end, with left-back Ben delighted with the shutout.

“We controlled the game throughout and we probably could have got a couple more goals, but it’s a clean sheet and that’s what we’re happy about,” said the Welsh international, a regular for us in the cup competitions so far this season.

“That’s the most important thing as a defender, that’s what we always try to do and I think, while we weren’t overly troubled on too many occasions tonight, we were happy with the performance. We had good screening from the midfielders in front of us, so it was a relatively comfortable win.”

The match saw Lamela and Kane get back on the scoresheet after netting all five goals between them in last Thursday’s 5-1 Europa League win over Asteras Tripolis, with Ben happy to see the duo putting in match-winning performances.

“They’re doing great for us,” he added. “They’re creating chances as well as getting the goals so it’s great to see and very pleasing, especially for those of us at the back as we know that if we do our job right then most of the time it’s being taken care of up top.”
