Ben confident ahead of Saints test

Ben Davies expects no let-up in our tough fixture schedule when we host Southampton on Sunday.

We return to Premier League duty against a Saints side that has enjoyed a tremendous start to the campaign under new manager Ronald Koeman, with the Hampshire club having won their last six matches in all competitions.

We enter the match on the back of Thursday’s European battle with Besiktas and Ben, who played 90 minutes at left back in that game, believes we’ll need to be at our best if we’re to build on last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

“It’s going to be another tough game,” said the defender, who is in the Wales squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus next week.

“Southampton are doing very well under their new manager so we’re expecting a difficult game, but we’re confident we can pick up the points that we need.”

Reflecting on Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Besiktas at White Hart Lane, our second Europa League group stage draw, Ben heaped praise on goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the string of fine saves he made to prevent the Turkish giants from escaping with all three points.

“Hugo was superb for us,” he said. “It’s the kind of thing we expect from Hugo with the quality he’s got but we really could have helped him out in some situations by not letting them get that far.

“He kept us in the lead at one point and we probably should have done the business to extend that and kill the game off better than we did.

“It was disappointing to concede right at the end.”
