Belief the key for Joe

Joe Jordan spoke about an ever-growing belief in the squad after another late, late show against Bolton last Saturday.

Joe Jordan spoke about an ever-growing belief in the squad after another late, late show against Bolton last Saturday.

And the first-team coach insists that belief stems from our Champions League play-off against Young Boys of Switzerland back in August, when we turned a 3-0 deficit inside 30 minutes of the first leg to 3-2 before winning the home leg 4-0.

Since then we’ve come from behind to win a number of matches, with late goals a key factor in victories against Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and now Bolton at the Lane on Saturday, thanks to Niko Kranjcar’s wonderful strike in the 92nd minute.

“That shows you a maturity and realisation and belief that we can do it,” said Joe. “That’s happened all season, even going back to the Champions League qualification match, when we clawed our way back into the game after going 3-0 down.

“Coming through those games has given the players a belief that we can score goals and we can pull games out of the fire.”

Joe was delighted with the back-to-back wins against Blackburn and Bolton last week.

“We’ve just had a period where I felt we played reasonably well without picking up the points we deserved,” he added.

“Now we’ve come through two tough games against opposition who have given us a hard time in the past.

“Bolton made it tough for us but thankfully Niko came on and showed us what he can do. It was a great goal.”
