Belgium strike boosts Nacer ahead of City test

Fresh from scoring a “Spurs goal” for Belgium, Nacer Chadli recognises the importance of Saturday’s game at Manchester City and is targeting a positive result.

The attacking midfielder, who has four Premier League goals to his name this term, was on target for the Red Devils in their 6-0 victory over Andorra last week, converting Jan Vertonghen’s pinpoint cross during the first half.

Now, as we get set to return to domestic action at the Etihad this weekend before taking on Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League on Thursday night, Nacer is in a positive frame of mind after such a thumping win on international duty.

“It was a Spurs goal!” said the 25-year-old of his strike against Andorra. “Jan crossed the ball very nicely and I managed to get in front of the defender and just sent it in.

“It was a good game against Andorra, we played well and a lot of fans were there, so it was good to score six goals and enjoy it with them.

“We’re now on four points out of six, so it’s not a bad start, but now I’m fully focused with the rest of our players here at Spurs on this Saturday with a big game against City.

“After that we’ll see about the Europa League, as we need to win the next game there too.”
