Bateman's Malta beat

Thu 07 August 2014, 17:15|Tottenham Hotspur

World renowned conductor Paul Bateman clearly demonstrated his Spurs allegiance while working in Malta recently.

Paul, who was born in Bounds Green and is a life-long Tottenham fan, was on the island to play a leading role in their sixth annual summer classical concert that featured local tenor Joseph Calleja and Bryn Terfel.

And Paul, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, wore his Spurs shirt during rehearsals with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at the Granaries in Floriana. The event also featured UK X-Factor winner Leona Lewis, Italian pop star Claudio Baglioni and local singer Federica Falzon.

During his stay Paul was a guest of our Valletta-based Spurs Supporters' Club where any fans visiting Malta are always welcome.

“I had a great time there and enjoyed a most pleasant evening,” said Paul. “It was nice to share enthusiasm for the greatest club ever. The welcome could not have been warmer and hopefully I can return another year and meet them all again.

“Wearing my Spurs shirt at rehearsals gave the orchestra a few smiles - and the concert was sensational.”
