Lee Barnard is after another taste of the Premiership after drawing the curtain on our reserve season with the winner against Portsmouth.
The striker made it two goals from only three starts in his injury-hit campaign as Clive Allen's young team beat Pompey 1-0 at Stevenage Borough FC. The result means the reigning champions will finish fifth in the Barclays Premiership Reserve League South this time around.
With the reserve campaign over, 'Barney' hopes to get another chance to prove himself to Martin Jol - he's been in the last three squads and is determined to step over the white line again having made his first team debut last season.
"That would be fantastic," stated Lee. "I've been in the squad a few times and on the bench against Sevilla. It's great to be involved but I would love to have another chance before the end of the season. I'll have to wait and see."
Development coach Clive has made no secret that he's missed Barney's goals this season - what team wouldn't miss a player who has contributed 16 goals in 17 games and 19 in 19 in the last two campaigns?
From Barney's point of view, he's just glad to be back. "It was nice to score again, especially as it was the last game," he reflected after the Pompey win on Monday night. "I would have liked a few more, I had the chances in the first half but it wasn't to be this time.
"We've had a young squad this season and it's quite difficult for them up against experienced teams but they've coped well, played good football and certainly put the effort in, so there are plusses in there.
"We've finished fifth, which is obviously disappointing after winning it last season, but I feel there are plenty of positives to come out of the season."
