Barney reaps the benefit
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Lee Barnard believes he is reaping the rewards from hard work and a little bit of luck in his recent goalscoring run for the reserves.
The striker goes into tonight's encounter with Chelsea at Stevenage on the back of a sequence of eight goals from six games. By comparison, Lee top-scored for the second string last season with a total of six goals and he modestly claims that luck is playing a part in his fortune in front of goal.
"Hard work, getting into the area more and just trying to sniff out more chances," he reflected. "The chances are coming and, thankfully, I've been putting some away.
"Some of it is down to luck being on my side, you always need that and I am having some at the moment.
"I feel good at the moment, confident in front of goal and I am benefitting from the hard work really. It is always nice to score, I am going to try and keep this run going and it is also nice to play well too."
So what is the real difference between last season and the early part of this one?
"I don't know really. I am personally working to get more chances and the lads are providing them, to be fair. The team are playing well and I am getting the service so that is good."
Lee has always been known as a striker who likes to drop off the front, link play and create chances for others. He agreed that maybe putting himself first for once is beginning to pay dividends.
"That is true, Clive has said to play more on the shoulder, get into the box and don't worry about chasing everything. It is a case of being a bit more selfish and having more shots.
"I do like to come short and link the play but, as long as I'm scoring, I'm happy," he added, before saying there has not been a time when he has enjoyed his football more.
"I haven't, scoring gives you confidence and you do enjoy it more."
