Martin Jol believes Gareth Bale featuring for a half in the international friendly against Bulgaria in Bourgas tonight will bring benefit to all parties. The full-back, recruited from Southampton in May, has made just one appearance in our colours so far in the pre-season encounter with St Patrick's in Dublin, with a thigh and then knee injury keeping him sidelined.
He is now free from injury but lacking in match practice, which is why Martin feels this international date is a timely one for the 18-year-old.
"Gareth is almost ready and that is why I was happy for him to go to the Wales v Bulgaria match because I think he needs a 45-minute run-out," reasoned Martin. "He only played one game for us before getting injured and he is lacking rhythm, so it is important he plays this time for his country," added the manager, who went on to provide an update on the fitness of Dimitar Berbatov following a groin problem that resulted in him missing out against Derby and international duty for Bulgaria tonight.
"Dimitar did some running on Monday and hopefully he will be back in full training very soon."
