AWAY GOAL PLEASES JOL

Martin Jol was delighted with our away goal and 1-0 first leg victory against Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup

Martin Jol was delighted with our away goal and 1-0 first leg victory against Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup

Jermaine Jenas struck what turned out to be the winner towards the end of the first half as our return to European action ended successfully. The return leg follows at the Lane on September 28.

Martin said: "For us of course the result is the main thing. We wanted to score a goal, it is always important to score and that's what we did reasonably early on.

"I think in the first half we controlled the game but we lost a bit of initiative in the second half and if you can't be dominant you can give away chances.

"They started believing in themselves and I feel they had one or two shots but it was a scrappy game in the second half.

"It was not easy for us because they played a similar system so everybody played against his own man. I felt that, at times, we could have done a bit better. On the other hand, if you win 1-0 in Slavia, it is a good result."

Slavia coach Karel Jarolim added: "In the first half my team showed Tottenham too much respect.

"They were outplaying us but did not have that many chances apart from the quick counter attack which resulted in the goal.

"We made too many unforced errors in our passing but in the second half we lost our nervousness and I started to believe we could equalise.

"We made two or three opportunities but did not take them. Now we have 14 days to prepare and try for a small miracle in London."
