August 22: Still seeing red
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
I am taking a light jog at the moment but I can’t get last night’s Everton game out of my mind.
If you are angry towards referees then for me, that is not right. But now I have to be angry because he changed the game in the second half. If you watch on TV then everyone can see that it wasn’t a foul for the penalty. We were 1-0 in front, he gave a penalty, he gave a red card — I don’t know why — and then the same with Gus Poyet. It was a foul, a bad foul, but only a yellow card, nothing more.
If you see the second half, if you see the chances for Everton, then perhaps a draw is okay. But we were 1-0 in front and the referee changed the game. We could have won.
If you see the second half and the decisions for the penalty and Gus Poyet, I think the referee was completely wrong. That is why maybe we missed our first win. I know everyone makes a mistake but I have to say that was wrong from the referee in the second half. I think the club will appeal for both players and we have to win. If we don’t, I can’t understand it.
Everyone makes mistakes but that was too much and I think it is now right to say the referee was wrong.
In the end it was great character from the team and great spirit to hold the 1-1. It was a great performance with nine players. It is never easy away and if you see the whole game, we deserved to win minimum one point. I’m a little disappointed.
We had a day off today and I’ve been helping Christian Ziege move into his new house. He has also found a new school for his daughter. It has been nice to be able to spend some time with the children because they are on holiday at the moment. I’ve enjoyed having that time to relax, but we will be back in on Wednesday to start getting ready for Blackburn on Saturday.

SUNDAY AUGUST 19
I’m speaking after our draw against Aston Villa on the first day of the season and as you can see from Newcastle’s draw against Chelsea today, it is difficult to start against a team who has played in the Inter Toto Cup. They already know what to do, they have played a lot of games with pressure and I think it is better now for those two teams.
But of you see the first half, we had a chance to go 1-0 up and that’s what we needed.
You can’t go forward too much, you have to play with your head and I think we did that in the first half and the only thing not there was the goal. I think the rest was okay but in the second half you can see that Aston Villa were more into their games, they’ve had more practice and they pushed forward. That’s why we had more problems.
We had a nice warm down today and we are now in the hotel ready for Everton on Monday. It very rarely happens in Germany that you play two games in three days, that is unbelievable. It is the same situation for Everton though. Two games in three days is very hard, especially at the start of the season.
We flew to Liverpool at four o’clock. We fly to a lot of the games now and that is perfect organisation. If you play on Saturday and have to play on Monday it is perfect. If you have to sit in the coach for four hours or maybe more then that is not such a good feeling. This helps especially as we are back to Blackburn next weekend.
It will be a tough game against Everton. They beat Charlton 2-1, what a start. They don’t have a lot of injuries. But if we can concentrate then we can get one point at least. That would be positive. You have to be positive in football all the time.
